Eldercountry aims to celebrate seniors. It is a monthly Internet magazine, except for one or two combined issues.

Our Spotlight feature focuses on distinguished seniors who are not celebrities, at least not "celebs" in the Hollywood or TV sense, but who are continuing to add to their achievements. The Essayist shares thoughts, usually humorous, that are likely to strike a chord with visitors to Eldercountry. The Eldercountry Lawyer discusses legal matters of interest, especially those in the news.

Visitors to Eldercountry have a voice in our e-magazine in the Visitors' Voice section, and are invited to send comments about our articles or anything else.

About the Editor: For months after 9/11, Janice Auritt Oser (Jan) looked out at the smoking ruins of Ground Zero from her office window at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, in downtown Manhattan. She finally decided to retire from the Bank, at age 71, to focus on making the most of the rest of her life. This she did, by spending more time with her grandchildren, traveling with her husband, enjoying her freedom generally, and, eventually, joining the Internet revolution by celebrating seniors on Eldercountry.com.

Jan received a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1952, an M.A. in Philosophy from New York University in 1968, and a Ph.D in Philosophy, also from New York University, in 1976. The subject of her Ph.D. thesis was self-deception. A Graduate Fellowship for Women from the Danforth Foundation helped to pay for care for Jan's three young children during her graduate studies. Her Ph.D. did not lead to steady employment, however, so Jan got a law degree from New York University, in 1984. That did lead to steady employment, at the Reserve Bank.

When Jan was elected to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior in college, newly elected members were urged not to allow the honor to be their last career achievement. She has been striving to avoid that fate ever since. Jan has been married to The Essayist for over 55 years, and shares The Eldercountry Lawyer role with their son Roy.

He obtained a B.A. degree in 1952 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Editor of PennPix, the campus humor magazine.
